Big dumb clumsy shaking carnival rocket let you down, killing Superman dead in a 4am car crash. This is the story of one hundred aisles, of automatic flowers. Hello, Oskar.

Given the day, I wish I owned an XBox. Hearing everything I have about Halo 2 — I do work in a junior high school, afterall — has made me rather keen to play it, what with me being such a gaming geek and all. Ah, well. Suppose I’d need to own a television first, yes? I shall have to console (oooh, is that pun? I think it is!) myself with Half-Life 2, come November 16.

Have been witness to a number of movies since my last update.

Let’s see… Ghost in the Shell 2 was excellent, if a little puzzling; movies of such a philosophical nature should not have subtitles that fly by at a mile-a-minute, as time is needed to appreciate and ponder the implications of each weighted statement. Ah, well. A rewatch will do wonders for my enjoyment of the film, I’m sure. It’s was visually stunning, with the bold contrast between the two different styles of animation employed working wonders to reinforce the theme of the movie, had the same cool factor as the first film, and really made me ponder the age-old sci-fi query: what does it mean to be human? Well worth the watch, and viewing of the first movie is, barring a bit of context, unnecessary.

The second film viewed of late was Pixar’s The Incredibles, and it was exactly what the title indicates. It’s been several long months since I was so entertained at the cinema and, time and again, I found myself thrilled by what I was witnessing. As both a fan of comic books and fine films, I heartily recommend this movie to anyone with even a passing interest in either. Seriously, what the hell are you waiting for? Go out and see this!

Beyond that, I’ve been spending far too much money on books of late. Hardcovers, hardcovers, hardcovers… :)

ADDENDUM: Thanks, love, for inadvertantly providing such an inspiring title.

I have a feeling that Jarret may be “surprising” me with Halo 2, he has been talking about it alot too, as well as Half Life 2. i’m still immersed with Fable. (such a good game!)

You’re quite welcome. It made me laugh heartily. Did you actually listen to the disc or just shamelessly pilfer the track titles?

I had an irreverant thought regarding The Incredibles this afternoon that I’d like to throw out there:

Female characters were portrayed with promenant cleavage, yet looking at the male characters… To put it delicately, they were strategically blank. Smooth as a Ken doll, despite all-revealing costumes. Hence, a thought was born. In this mythical Disney world, do people reproduce asexually while giving the outward appearance of functional genders? Or are male genitalia simply fully retractable?

Matt, what in the hell?! Our Lady Peace? I mean, yes, it’s not a bad album, but it’s not good enough for title status. Except in some surrealistic alternate reality where people are represented by “pages” and…

    Okay…

Anyway, GiTS2 … Bastard! I was going to ask you to come see it with me friday for a matinee. If possible. I only just found out it was playing on Monday, and didn’t have anyone to see it with last night.

However, Char, Mel and I saw the Incredibles last night, and yet again I saw proof that there _are_ writers working in movies that get it. They’re still the minority, but they’re getting work, which is a good thing(tm).

The part that really got me was Dash — when I was his age, I dreamed of being the flash. When he first ran over the water, i was grinning from ear to ear, thinking: “I know how I’d feel if I could do that!”

That and the persistent message about being “special” — If everyone’s ‘special’, _nobody_ is. I liked seeing a movie that did _not_ pretend that we were all either implicitly or explicitly generic.

Can’t dispute whether or not it’s a bad (and, therefore, good) album or not as I haven’t listened to it — beyond, of course, the singles I’ve heard off it over the years. All I know is, it was left out on the desk and, when thinking of a title for this post, I figured I’d do the po-mo deconstructionist thing. It’s art, man. Art!

    Nobody understands me…

GitS2 is, as stated above, bloody (literally, in places) neat. Watching it’s given me a burning urge to re-watch the first one and, in absence of finding a DVD copy, I gave in and purchased the freshly re-released manga digest the other day. If you’re still interested in catching a matinee on Friday afternoon, I wouldn’t object to re-watching the movie…
