Lasers!

by Chris on May.09, 2008, under General Thoughts

Had a great time with Eric and company at his bachelor party last night. This one won’t win any awards for hardcore crazy times, but that’s more my speed anyway. The entertainments included political snarkery, literary pretensions, laser tag, and Dragonball on the Wii. All of these things are good fun, and really, what would life be like without them?

I did, however, oversleep a bit this morning. I blame the fact that I’ve not topped 6 hours of sleep in any night for around a month, which is probably not doing my body any good whatsoever.

In other news, Mother’s day is coming, and I’m pretty stoked: I remembered! ;)

Plaudits

by Chris on Nov.06, 2007, under Media

I don’t normally toot my family’s horn in this space (they’re as gifted as I am at that themselves, for the most part) but my Granddad is widely regarded as a great man.

I’m sure that Char will comment on this soon enough.

Close to my (predatory?) heart

by Chris on Sep.13, 2007, under Internet, Media and Rants

Two articles in the Wall Street Journal, one titled Are We Teaching Our Kids To Be Fearful of Men? and its sequel, Avoiding Kids: How Men Cope With Being Cast as Predators.

I’m just going to let these speak for themselves.

Plotted out

by Chris on Apr.29, 2007, under Appreciation and Friends

I think the conspiracy yesterday was to make me actually feel old, by working me over body and mind, so that today I wake up tired, with a sore back and stiff limbs.

I love you all ;)

Squash is responsible for a sore forearm and back, biking for sore legs, and disc golf for a sore shoulder. My mind is awash with details I never knew about good friends and family, which is great — I’m going to get Char to forward me the emails that she assembled into the fantastic party game that we played, and I intend to read over them all.

Thank you all so very much, those of you who were able to come out last night. I had a great time, and it was arguably the best birthday e-var!1!!bang

Ach. Whatta Weekend

by Chris on Mar.12, 2007, under Friends

Well, I can’t say that this past weekend was a terrific one.

Oh, the details were mostly good. I had a good trip with Char, during which she either slept or was happy to chat with me continuously about a whole host of interesting things (PolySci == good conversation). However, the details — from some social awkwardness at the wedding itself (on my part, sadly) to some bad news from home (ask Char; it’s her story to tell) meant that the trip turned out to be less happy than I’d hoped.

I wish it had been more cheery, but I suppose I still enjoyed the trip; the company was excellent, and even if the details were bad it doesn’t mean that there was no value in it.

Ticking Down

by Chris on Dec.11, 2006, under Asides

A few things coming up soon;

  • One, there’s a ski trip happening in a few days, on the 22nd, with much of my family that will be very fun (good idea, Char!).
  • Two, Christmas. I’m short on gift ideas, so suggestions — to the extent that I’m getting gifts outside the family — are welcome. A particularly good suggestion might net you some swag, anyway. And yes, dear, I know what you want ;)
  • Three, school is done for the year tomorrow morning.
  • Four, we’re about ready to release version 4.0.0 of our flagship product

It’s a busy, busy week.

Thanks, Mir

by Chris on Jun.12, 2006, under General Thoughts

I’d like to thank Miranda for a $200 dent in my finances. And for whatever the gap is between that $200 and what it really cost.

And a long-held wish to see the Oilers play a Stanley Cup finals game.

On the bandwagon with me

by Chris on Jun.21, 2004, under General Thoughts

For further info, and better writing about my dad, see here

For specifics, well, I think that the best sum-up of my relationship with my father is the thing he said to me about living with Char and I for half a year: It’s nice that we get to experience living together as adults and equals, and thus get to know each other better than otherwise we would.

Happy Father’s Day (one day late)

Unpleasant Newses

by Chris on Apr.16, 2004, under General Thoughts

I have a cousin. She’s one of my favourite cousins. And, although we don’t know for sure yet, her husband — whom I also like quite a bit — has been diagnosed with cancer somewhere in the area of his right shoulder.

I want to take this space to wish both Angie and Darryl well.

Downtime

by Chris on Feb.19, 2004, under General Thoughts

As has been posted to char’s weblog in the near past, I’m back in GP for the week. It’s kind of interesting - i’ve been going out of my way to be a bit more sociable than i usually am on these visits, and oddly enough, I’m liking it.

Which is, given my antipathy to the place, fairly peculiar in and of itself.

Anyway, Just a post to keep people aware that no, i’m not dead.

And yes, my dad is doing fine.
