Uprooting

Well, it seems that Char and I will be moving again, sooner than we’d hoped, but not really too surprised about it.
It seems our benefactors wish to have the basement free to house wedding guests — the wisdom of which, vis a vis hotel accomodations, we shall not discuss here — and as such we’ve been asked to move by Sept 1. Which is, in fact really inconvenient. The more I’ve learned about how homebuying works, the more I’ve gotten the hang of just how long it can take, and unfortunately, our expectations have had to be downgraded significantly by the fact that we cannot hope to both come up with a reasonable down payment and find a house whose possession date is ‘immediately’ in the time we have.
So, I’m considering prostitution. I figure, with my hot ass…
Meh. Anyway, there’ll be other house hunting updates over the course of the summer, I’m sure. If anyone knows of any ~$110,000 condos near bus routes in non-shitty parts of Edmonton, let us know.

I think there may be one in my area, actually. There was a sign up for it last week, it’s a for sale by owner. I will look for the sign again if you want tomorrow. It’s 2 beds, 2 baths and they are asking for $10k minimum as the downpayment.

Oh yeah it’s available immediately, too.

Sadly, the odds of us having $10,000 as a down payment are very, very slim unless some form of fiscal miracle comes up. That being said, maybe we should have a look at it.
Where is it? And do they list a phone number? A comfree sale number?

Sorry to burst your bubble, Mel, but those condos (if they’re the ones I’m thinking of) run at at least 160. We can buy a house for that much. And they aren’t that great. If we’re going to get a condo, it will at least be a townhouse since we need 3 bedrooms. And an apartment would be way too small. condo fees are usually unreasonable in apt style ones, anyway.

You’re not bursting my bubble! It’s just the only one I could think of off the top of my head. Of course there are always some in the blocks across the street from me, too, but I have no idea how much they are and they are apartment style. I have no idea about this one I mentioned, where it is or what it looks like or anything. Chris asked for suggestions, and I had one. That’s all.

I can undestand why you want a townhouse, though. More room for the cats, too. If I could help you out there, I would, but the only ones I know of are somewhere on the north side, and that’s rather vague.

Aye, catspace is a primary requirement, as is some kind of yard, even if not a large one. There’s some decent townhouse-style condos we’ve looked at near our old house, I wouldn’t mind moving in to one of those.

There are some townhouses there? I had no idea. Where are they? Oh are they the Pleasantview ones, near on 51ave and 106st? Because I knew a few people who lived in one of those and it was a dump.
At any rate, the condo I was thinking of seems to be gone; the sign was not there yesterday.
By the way, I signed out GEB again. I’ll give it another try.

I’ve never seen those ones, but they do look dumpy. We were referring to the ones behind our favorite vietnemise restaurant. Wilma lives there and although they look older on the outside, they are very nice on the inside. Waiting game, I guess.

Hot ass, indeed.
